When it rains, it pours.

August 7, 2009 by Michelle Hinckley |

Time to work some magic on our bedroom furniture (a.k.a. a lot of paint). I’ve been doing quite a bit of research on painting furniture. In a nutshell, fastest way and best coverage is with a paint sprayer.

I decided to rent one from Home Depot. Turns out they only have monster sprayers that rent for $89.00. The guy tells me his would be way overkill for just painting some furniture. He suggests I just buy a smaller version for same price of renting the monster sprayer. Not really what I had in mind but okay.

I bought one of these Wagner models. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DO I RECOMMEND THIS THING! It’s hard to tell from the picture but it just splat big blotches of paint everywhere, EVERYWHERE! Then to top it off, it hasn’t monsooned in weeks, but today it decided to dump. So we scrambled to get everything back in side. We took extra care to protect everything from possible paint spillage. PAINT IS NOW EVERYWHERE! I stepped backwards in to the bucket, spilled it all over the grass, tripped over the cord and dropped the paint sprayer, turned around backed my rear back in to painted wet dresser, here comes the rain. &*%$!

My projects all take three trys. First I do it wrong, Second I fix the first attempt, Third I finally get it and do it right. Plan on 5 hours times 4. Hope that paint sprayer gets taken back.

I agree! I bought one of these a while ago and it was AWFUL! Luckily, I was able to return it without a problem. I am new to your blog, but I love it so far!

Oooh! I feel your pain! I tried using one for my sister’s dining table, and it was a terribly, splotchy, “orange-peel” mess! Glad you went for the compressed air version!

As an aside, I’m awaiting the arrival of a gadget called a Preval Sprayer – its a small bottle-container base attached to an aerosal top. It claims to turn any paint color into spray perfection – we’ll see! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Was sent your way via Camilla – I’m still picking my jaw off the floor from seeing the pics of your home – you knock it out of the park in EVERY. SINGLE. ROOM!
    Absolutely gorgeous!!
