When I was growing up my dad had classic art pieces by famous artists on his walls. I never appreciated the art. I thought they were old and stuffy. Then when my dad moved all the art came down and walls felt empty and dull. We sold all the art at a garage sale. To this day I regret letting those beautiful art pieces go for just a few dollars. Art gives life and energy to room and effects the way people feel.
Recently, a few of my walls got some new pieces from Artfully Walls.
The Mr. and I met in Hawaii at college. To put ourselves through college he counted coconuts in the warehouse at the Polynesian Cultural Center and I took pictures with the tourists and danced on the canoes. After work we would spend time at the beach. When I saw this print it took me back to the good ‘ole days. When life was easy, un-complicated and all about when we would get to the beach next. Paddleboarders brings me back to that time in our lives.
Then there is this piece…
I have no romantic story to go along with it except that I like it.
I just like it.
The visual order of stripes do my brain happy.
And of all the places, the loo needs pretty things the most.
So how does one go about choosing art for their walls?
Pick what you like.
That sounds like one of those “duh” answers but people don’t really pick what they like.
They tend to pick what is trendy instead of what they truly like.
When you find yourself going back for a second look or thinking about it even after you’ve stopped looking at it…then that’s your piece.
Pick it because you like it…to heck with everyone else’s opinion. (But for the love of Pete, stop hanging your art so stinkin’ high on the wall. Eye level people. [Or lower]).
As far as size…when in doubt, go big.. Rarely do people complain about art being too big. Too small, yes, but not too big. To help you determine the right size, cut some brown craft paper out the same size as the print you are considering and tape it to the wall to give you a sense of scale.
Can I just tell you how much I love Artfully Walls? Their selection is stellar plus they make it so easy to dress your walls. Pick your print, boom, it’s at your doorstep. You can order just the print or have it framed. Just a little advice, have it framed. No going out and finding the right size frame. Wham, bam, done. Ready to hang on your wall.
You know how designers always talk about rooms needing a pop of color? Well here you go…
What about a kids room with any of these?…
